High Plains Ranch Practicum Receives Grant

The Washington State University Western Center for Risk Management Education and the USDA Cooperative State Research Education and Extension Service (CSREES) will be providing funding for the 2008 High Plains Ranch Practicum.  Tuition for the Practicum is normally $600.  However, this year grant funding will cover $400 of the $600 tuition needed for those who complete the course.  Completion of the course requires attending six of the eight sessions, completing a simple business plan and calculating unit cost of production for the cow-calf enterprise of the ranch.

How Grant Funding will Work

Applicants to the High Plains Ranch Practicum will need to send in a $200 deposit to reserve their spot for the practicum.  Upon attendance participants will need to bring an earnest check for $400 to the June 9 & 10 sessions,.  This $400 check will be held and returned to participants who complete the requirements of the course at the end of the practicum.  Failure to complete the requirements of the course will result in participants paying the full tuition price of $600.

The High Plains Ranch Practicum is an eight-day, five sessions, hands-on educational program designed to give participants the skills and application of management tools needed in today’s complex ranching industry.  Classes are held at the University of Wyoming Sustainable Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SAREC) near Lingle, Wyoming and at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Panhandle Research and Extension Center at Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  Dates for the 2008-2009 High Plains Ranch Practicum are June 9&10, July 8, September 9 & 10, November 11 and January 7 & 8, 2009. Application deadline for the High Plains Ranch Practicum is Friday, May 9.  Applications are available on the web at www.hpranchpracticum.com or by contacting Aaron Berger at (308) 235-3122 or Dallas Mount at (307) 322-3667
